Background
MCF Advisors approached me with the desire to tell a story about how their wealth management strategy adapts to client’s needs and helps course corrects when the unexpected happens. They had an idea of telling this story through the framework of the age of exploration.
Production
The client actually had much of the narrative mapped out and storyboarded before we got started. I tapped Rachel Maves to help bring their drawings to life through her beautiful illustrative style. As we were brainstorming aesthetic approach, I mentioned to Rachel the possibility of utilizing wood block texture, which would’ve been the popular illustrative style during the time of Magellan. She took that idea and ran with it, abstracted and modernized it, and created the really unique art style that ended up in the final product.

The client emphasized during production that they wanted the environment to be just as important of a character as the captain and crew of the ship. Rachel brought the environment to life through dynamic lighting, and then I paired it with some heavy sound design to anchor the audience into the space.
